Conference room of the Führerbunker, photographed in July 1945. The conference room was located directly next to the chamber in which Adolf Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945.
The Führerbunker fell into Soviet hands in early May after the fall of Berlin, and the first pictures of its interior were taken by the Western Allies in July.
Over the years, the Allied forces and the German government took all necessary measures to erase all traces of the bunker and the neighboring Reich Chancellery. Among other things, the area was designed through construction work to become banal and inconspicuous. The exit of the Führerbunker now serves as a parking lot. An information panel installed in 2006 is the only connection to the area’s history.
